SRDCC Life Member - T V Hohns

At the Annual General Meeting of the Club held on the 28th July, 1986, Life Membership of the Club was conferred on Mr. Trevor Victor Hohns in recognition of his special services to the Club.

Trevor Hohns first played for the Club in the 1966/67 year in the Schoolboy Grade side. He played in 3 matches being unbeaten in 3 innings for 103 runs and took 11 wickets at 8.91. He was then selected in the Brisbane State Schoolboy side and later in the State Schoolboy side. Next year he took 51 wickets at 5.04 (1st. Club & Q.C.A.) for the Schoolboy side, again premiership winners, and 18 wickets at 9.88 in the Intermediate Grade (7th. Q.C.A.). He won the Club trophy for Junior Points Scorer.

In the 1968/69 year, he again headed the Intermediate bowling averages (24 wickets at 13.54) and took 16 wickets in "B" Grade. He won the "B" Grade batting average and was second in the Intermediate averages, his runs including his first century, 105 not out. He was again the top Junior Points Scorer.

He went to Reserve Grade in 1969/70 and played one game in "A" Grade. This representation increased in 1970/71 and he was a regular member of thhe "A" Grade side in the 1971/72 year. During these years, he won the Under 19 bowling trophy twice for most wickets and the batting averages once - including a century, 109 not out. He was the Brisbane Under 19 captain in 1971/72.

In the 1972/73 year, he was selected in the Metropolitan and Queensland Colts sides and also in the State side for which he scored 203 ruuns at 33.8. He topscored with 66 in Colts' first innings against Country and made 43 against N.S.W. Colts. Understandably, he was awarded the Club's "Most Improved Player" Trophy. He played in three matches for the State in the 1973/74 year.

Following a good year with the Club in 1975/76, Trevor returned to the State side in February, 1977 and remained a regular member. He captained the State against South Australia in November, 1982 and in three other matches and a McDonalds' Cup match in the 1982/83 year. He has acted as vice-captain and in later years has been a tour selector. In the 1984/85 year, he scored two centries - one being in the Shield final. He played in 17 one-day matches for the State.

Some highlights of his "A" and First Grade career have been:-

  • First century, 100 not out, in 1977/78, followed by 4 others, highest score 123 in 1984/85.
  • Best bowling performance, 8/41 against Valleys in 1978/79.
  • Winning of the bowling average in 1982/83 and the batting avrage in 1983/84 (6th. Q.C.A. batting and bowling averages)
  • First Grade captain in 1979/80, 1984/85 & 1985/86.

Trevor was a member of the Club Executive Comittee from 1972/73 to 1976/77, in 1979/80 and from 1981/82 to 1985/86. He has always been interested in the coaching and development of younger cricketers. His experienced guidance at Club practice sessions has been most helpful. His determination and mature behaviour on the field were evident early and some of his fighting efforts for his Club and State have become legendary.
