SRDCC Life Member - R Joyce

At the Annual General Meeting of the Club held on the 31st July, 1979, Life Membership of this Club was conferred on Mr. Bob Joyce in recognition of his special services to the Club.

Bob joined the Club in the 1961/62 season and played in the Intemediate and "C" Grades. After two seasons in the Intermediate Grade and one in the "B"  and Reserve Grades, he was selected in the "A" Grade side in the 1965/66 season. His performance foreshadowed deeds to come as he averaged 53.40 in eight innings.

Bob has been a member of the "A" Grade side since then and his consistent performances with bat and ball can be simply demonstrated by his record at the close of the 1977/78 season:-

        Batting:     173 inns.,  24 n.o.'s,    106* H.S.,    4495 runs,    30.17 ave.
        Bowling    1807 overs,    589 mds.,    5666 runs,    279 wkts.,    20.30 ave.

He headed the "A" Grade bowling averages in the 1968/69, 1969/70, 1973/74 and 1977/78 seasons and the batting averages in the 1970/71, 1972/73, 1973/74 and 1976/77 seasons. He was second in the Q.C.A. batting averages in 1970/71 and fourth in the 1972/73 and 1973/74 seasons. He finished fifth in the Q.C.A. bowling averages in 1973/74 and third in 1977/78.

In November, 1978, he was selected to play for Queensland Colts against New South Wales Colts at Sydney and also played against them in Brisbane in October, 1969. Following his selection in the Queensland Sheffield Shield team in October, 1969, he played in four one-day matches in the 1969/70 and 1972/73 seasons, the last match being the final against New Zealand in the Coca-Cola competition.

In his first Shield match against Western Australia in October, 1969, he scored 86 not out, out of a total of 237 in the first innings. Unfortunately, he ran out of partners - the last five batsmen made 19 runs. He played for Queensland against Pakistan in December, 1972, and in 15 Shield matches from 1969 to 1973. His record in the 16 matches was:
        Batting:  521 runs at 20.03.
        Bowling:  11 wickets at 39.63
        Catches:  9.

Bob acted as vice-captain of the "A" Grade for many seasons and deputised as captain. He was appointed as captain in the 1974/75 and 1977/78 seasons. He was Chairman of Selectors in the 1976/77 season.

Since 1969, he has been a member of the Club Executive Committee and has been active in coaching and fund-raising activities and has always been keenly interested in the development of the Club. He has attended as a proxy some of the Q.C.A. Sub-Committee Meetings. He played a leading part in the organisation of the recent successful 3-a-side competition.

He was a member of the "A" Grade side that won the Channel O Cup in 1975/76.
