SRDCC Life Member - J Stackpoole

At the Annual General Meeting of the Club held on the 25th July 1977, Life Membership of this Club was conferred on Mr. John Stackpoole in recognition of his special services to the Club.

John joined the then Toombul-Sandgate club in 1960/61 and played in the Intermediate Grade. He first gained A Grade selection in 1963/64 and is only the second player from this club to capture 100 wickets and score 2000 runs in A Grade. He also holds the record for the number of A Grade catches taken by a fieldsman, other than a wicketkeeper.

He was captain of the A Grade side in the 1976/77 season and was a member of the side that won the Channel O Cup in the 1975/76 season.

From 31st December 1964 to the 6th February 1967, John was an Executive Committee member and from the 1st January 1965 to 6th February 1967, served as club delegate to the Q.C.A. During the 1965/66 season, he coached and managed the Schoolboy Grade to a premiership win and was involved with the premiership winning Schoolboy side of the following season until National Service intervened.

John rejoined the Executive Committee in the 1970/71 year and still is a member thereof. For four years from 1971/72, he held the position of Honorary Treasurer. In 1975/76 he was responsible for the formation of a schoolboy competition on Saturday mornings for boys in the Sandgate district. This competition is still organized by John.
