Jack became a member of the Toombul-Sandgate District Cricket Club in 1948. His playing ability was soon apparent and in 1951, he was selected to play in the Colts "A" Grade team. From 1953 to 1961, he continued as a member of the Club, but played in the Toombul "A" Grade team.
In 1961, he played with the first Sandgate-Redcliffe "A" Grade side and was a tower of strength to the Club until he retired at the end of last season. He captained the "A" grade side from 1962.
He was first selected to play for Queensland in the 1955/56 season and up to 1965, represented the state on 26 occasions - 24 Sheffield Shield matches and matches against the West Indies and Pakistan.
Jack has been a member of the Executive Committee since 1963 and in that time did a considerable amount of work in connexion with the maintenance of the grounds. He planned and supervised the construction of the night practice wicket. He was always willing to help other Club members and the remarks made in the 1964/65 Annual Report are worth repeating -
"At all times he was an inspiration to his team and a great help to the younger players."
